Pigs in their house

Pigs in their house

We raise pigs each year, harvesting them in the fall. They are fed all organic feed and finished on apple cider mash and windfalls.  We get our Hamshire/Tamworth crosses from Katherine over at Horse Drawn Farm.  She has been working on her herd genetics for years and as she says they have “old pig” in them which can be translated as great flavor!

One change this season is that we have been able source all local grain.  This is very exciting.  Ron Norman grew some great barley here on the island and we were also able to get hard red winter wheat from Hedlin’s Farm in Laconner.

There are three ways to buy our pork!

Buy half pig for $5.40/lb by hanging weight

Half and whole animal are sold by hanging weight (the animal minus head, viscera and skin). The typical hanging weight is around 250lbs. Take home meat is usually 75% of hanging weight. Sausage is an additional charge. Island Grown Farmers Co-operative in Bow is currently doing our cut and wrap. Pick up is available on the farm or from the IGFC plant in Bow. This is the most economical option and if you love pork and have a freezer this is the way to go.

15 Pound Variety Box for $120

This box includes a mix of chops, sausage, roasts and other cuts one would get when buying half a hog.  It will fit in a fridge freezer.

Farm Stand!!

We usually have pork available by the piece out of our farmstand freezers.  Availability of different cuts can vary.
